Western Roadtrip
In February & early March, Martha & I took a 5 week roadtrip through Oregon, California, Nevada & Arizona in the Starr van. It was mostly unscripted, just fueled by a desire to get out and follow spontaneous wanderlust. It was planned as a non-photography trip since I didn't want the itinerary and my daily activities to be dictated by my camera. But I did quickly scout some locations for future photography-focused visits (e.g., northern California and southern Oregon coasts & forests).
We ended up exploring the following:
- Southern Oregon coast
- Northern CA redwoods
- Sonoma & Napa valleys & wine
- Owens Valley
- Death Valley
- AZ’s Kofa Mountains
- Friends & an OSU baseball game in Phoenix
- Tucson's friends, Botanical Garden, & Sonoran Desert Museum
- Northeastern AZ's Petrified Forest & Painted Desert
- Winslow AZ’s “Standing on a Corner” & fabulously restored La Posada hotel/restaurant
- NV’s Valley of Fire & Little Finland red rock areas
- Various NV gold rush ghost towns
- Family in SF
- Northern CA's Highway 1 coast
My camera did briefly come out for the following exceptions:
- A beautiful Kofa Mountains sunset,
- A rare close encounter with a group of Big Horn Sheep in NV's Valley of Fire,
- Nevada's fabulous-but-remote Little Finland red rock area which I am unlikely to visit again.
Below are some images from these locations.
