Cathedral Valley, October 15-16

The rain we experienced in White Pocket had been much, much heavier to the north, with Capitol Reef's dirt roads very heavy eroded. We found that we couldn't ford the Fremont River and therefore could not drive into Cathedral Valley on our preferred route along the South Desert. Instead we drove in on the Lower Cathedral Vally road and were able to just barely navigate some difficult stretches. We stopped to see the Temples of the Sun & Moon and nearby Glass Moutain, and arrived in the upper valley in time for late afternoon light. After another full day of shooting, we were awaken in the night by a furious wind, causing us to strike camp in the dark and start the long drive home – a strong, final punctuation mark on a wonderful trip.
