Southern Patagonia

In late April/early May I took my fourth trip to Southern Patagonia as part of a Marc Adamus photography workshop. Over 12 days we visited Argentina's Fitz Roy range and then Chile's Torres del Paine & the fjords around Puerto Natales. What had attracted me to this trip was its intended focus on drone photography in the mountainous Pacific fjords, which I had only briefly explored from a ferry in 2007. This time I'd be on a small boat, nimble & free to explore by foot and air. Unfortunately, the weather gods didn't cooperate -- the fjords week had almost continuous rain, wind, and a low cloud ceiling. So we saw almost none of the high, glacier-covered peaks and excursions were a difficult, wet, land-bound mess. We did have a couple short storm breaks during our 4 days around Fitz Roy, when we were able to fly our drones. And we had a great sunrise at Torres del Paine during our half day there.

A highlight of the trip was reconnecting with our 2007 guide, Alejandro. It turns out Marc Adamus uses him as his Chilean local guide on his trips down there! Images from that 2007 trip can be found here. And here are my other southern Patagonia galleries: 2015 images & 2019 images.

I did come back with a few good images...
