Chefchaouen
Chefchaouen, or Chaouen, is a village in the Rif Mountains of northern Morocco and is known for the striking, blue-washed buildings of its medina (old town). The village was settled by Moors and Jews forced out of southern Spain during the Catholic Inquisition. The village's Jewish quarter apparently had blue accents, and its moorish quarter known for white. In recent times, online pictures of some (one?) Jewish quarter blue doors went viral, so then the entire village decided to "go blue". Brilliant marketing choice! We spent two days exploring this charming village.
