Chhattisgarh Markets

We visited a number of weekly markets where nearby tribal villages can obtain vegetables, dry goods (e.g., spices, grain), meat (chicken), fish (e.g., carp, dried sardines), household wares (e.g., pots), fabric and jewelry, and services (e.g., seamstress mending). The bracklet vendors were always the busiest, serving women replacing their colorful stacked bracelots with new editions.

We also visited a market known for its cock fighting. This is an all male activity, with heavy betting. For about 30 minutes the bets are placed and the two cocks prepared (e.g., a razor sharp spur attached to one leg), which is followed by the match which was typically over in less than a minute.
