Amsterdam, The Netherlands (September 27-October 1 & October 22)

We spent 4 days in Amsterdam on our way from Provence to Africa and then another day on our way back to the States. Martha had visited this wonderful city on two previous trips, but for the rest of us it was our first time. We found it to be an extremely friendly and easy to navigate city. We stayed in a lovely private two bedroom apartment (Guesthouse de Lindeboom) centrally located right on the quiet Herengracht Canal. In addition to exploring the canals, neighborhoods, and eatries, we visited the Anne Frank House, Rembrandt House, Rijks, and Van Gogh Museums. We also took the amazing ubiquitous & efficient train system out to the quaint village of Zaandam, with its oldtime windmills and small shops & houses. We easily could have spent another 4 days exploring ... another time!
