2007 South America Trip

We had a fabulous trip in Chile and Argentina from February 6 until March 27, 2007. Here is a brief summary of our 2007 trip to South America:

• Flew to El Calafate in extreme southern Argentina (via Dulles & Buenos Aires)
• Spent a day acclimatizing by touring the famous Perito Moreno Glacier outside El Calafate
• Took bus north to el Chalten and spent 4 days hiking in Fitz Roy region
• Took bus southwest to Puerto Natales, Chile, and spent 4 days hiking the "W" route in Torres del Paine
• Took bus roundtrip to Punta Arenas to visit Penguins on Isla Magdalena in the Magellan Straits
• Took 3 day ferry trip north out of Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt through Chile's inland waterways
• Rented a car and explored Chiloe Island and Chile's lake district (primarily Puerto Varas and Villarrica)
• Drove north for wine tasting in the Colchagua, Casablanca, and Maipo Valleys, also spending four days in Valparaiso
• Explored Santiago for 3 days
• Took bus over Andes to Mendoza, Argentina and spent 3 days wine tasting in that region
• Flew to Buenos Aires for about a week of exploring that area
