Two Days in Columbia River Gorge

Ponytail Falls, Columbia River GorgeLast weekend I spent two days hiking in the Columbia Gorge. The wildflower reports had been excellent and I did see lots of flowers, but I didn’t find them either photogenic or able to be captured in driving rain. Therefore I “focused” on waterfall and creek shots. The first day was spent driving up to Dry Creek Falls, followed by hiking up Tanner Creek to Wahclella Falls, and then up McCord Creek to Elowah Falls (both in the driving rain). Sunday was spent hiking the Horsetails Falls, Ponytail Falls, Upper Oneonta Falls, and Triple Falls loop. I appreciated the much nicer weather, but not the crowds it brought out. Trip’s images can be found at: Columbia Gorge Gallery.

All Photo Galleries Now Converted to New Technology

As previously posted, last year I started using new software for displaying all new photo galleries on the website. This was done to better show the website on the wide array of mobile and desktop devices that are now popular. Since that initial switch I have been slowly converting previously published galleries to TTG’s CE3 Publisher (a Lightroom plug-in). I have now finished all those conversions, so that all galleries are now displayed with much higher quality on all devices and you no longer have to scroll through an entire gallery in order to find a particular image.

Trip to Europe & East Africa

Martha and I, together with Bend friends Andy & Marcia, spent 5 weeks in Europe and East Africa this fall. We spent the first week at Chez Mirabel, our shared house in Provence, France. Then 4 days in Amsterdam, followed by two weeks on safari in Northern Tanzania. Lastly, we spent a week on Zanzibar, mostly on Pongwe Beach. It was not a photography oriented trip as most of our activities occurred in the middle of the day, under bright sun. Nonetheless, I did take a full photography “kit” and managed to come back with 13,000 photos! Details about the trip and selected images can be found here: Europe & East Africa Galleries

Photo Galleries Updated for Retina Displays

As a result of acquiring a new iPad Air, I have started updating my photo galleries to take advantage of the increased display resolution of such devices (i.e., their “retina” displays). All of the 2013 galleries have been upgraded, as will all future galleries. Both static images and moving panoramas are now of higher resolution and appear much sharper. However, the panoramas have greatly increased in size and I am a little concerned that some retina tablets may crash when trying to display them. I would appreciate your feedback if you do experience problems.
